Countryside Saloon is one of Des Plaines’ best-kept secrets. Originally established in 1933, it was once a Prohibition-era speakeasy and gin mill. Today, it is a lively sports bar and grill that offers patrons a chance to see their favorite sports team, listen to live music on Friday’s or just enjoy a great meal while sipping on one of many craft beers or classic cocktails.

The Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame is a historic event and an exhibit. Through the Hall of Fame, Chicagoans and the world are made aware of the contributions of Chicago’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities and their efforts to eradicate homophobic bias and discrimination.

Talerico Bakery

From boyhood friends to “Fritters Kings”, Robert Talerico and Michael “Mickey” Martin began a lifetime friendship in 1956. Growing up on opposite ends of the same block, neighborhood baseball games led to a lifelong friendship. Multiple business opportunities eventually led to the formation of Talerico Martin Wholesale Bakers in 1984. Through various locations in and around Summit, Bob and Mickey have been putting smiles on the faces of customers for over 40 years.

This healing network includes Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, Lutheran Disaster Response, ELCA World Hunger, Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran World Federation, and other Lutheran ministries and organizations.
